Nuts & Seeds

Supplying your bird with ONLY nuts and seeds is inadequate for their diet need and will lead to serious health problems including liver disease. With that said, unsalted, raw (not roasted which will deplete nutrients) high-quality nuts & seeds can offer your bird healthy essential fats & oils as a treat. They will also give your bird enrichment with foraging. Many bird toys are available to put nuts and seeds in for your pet bird to have to work and find for enrichment.  Most parrots are eager to eat seeds however, they have high levels of fat and should therefore be offered as treats only, and not as the basic diet. Some parrot species such a macaws will require a higher fat content and healthy unsalted, raw nuts such as almonds, cashew nuts, hazel nuts, walnuts, pecans,  shelled peanuts, & pistachios  are a favorite. Other parrot species including conures will readily enjoy seeds and nuts as a treat.
